F. Rotatori - An
unpublished drawing after Raphael and reflections on Federico Zuccari
The
aim of this article is to present a hypothesis which attributes an unpublished
drawing after Raphael located in the Istituto
Centrale per la Grafica in Rome to the painter and
theoretician Federico Zuccari (Sant’Angelo in Vado, 1539 -Ancona, 1609)
The
proposal is analyzed in the context of the attention paid to the Urbino artist,
which provided a theoretical, critical and methodological basis for subsequent
studies within the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. Thanks to the efforts of
Federico Zuccari, Raphael became a model and point of reference for the Rome
Academy, whilst in Florence Giorgio Vasari (Arezzo, 1511 - Firenze, 1574)
promoted the myth of Michelangelo as a paradigm for the members of the
Florentine Accademia del Disegno.
