E. Ghetti – A new Girolamo Troppa’s altarpiece in Pergola
The essay aims at
presenting an interesting addition to the catalogue of Girolamo Troppa
(1636-1711), a gifted and prolific painter born in Rocchette in Sabina (RI),
appointed “Cavaliere” by 1686, whose spent his
career between Rome and the provinces of the Papal State. The new
addition depicts The Blessed Sacrament adored by Saints and is
located in the Church of Sant’Andrea, in Pergola (PU). It came from the ruined Church of San Pietro,
where it adorned the altar of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. Among
the various comparisons the one with the Madonna del Latte in Rieti is
significant, but even more so is the comparison with the drawing of a similar
subject now at the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne.
