A. Delpriori – Abstract

The paper presents a new Flight into Egypt by Andrea Lilio; it comes from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and has been at auction in New York (Sotheby’s) on 1 February 2018 with the attribution to Ventura Salimbeni.

The peculiar and typical stilistic characters of the painting suggest to put it into the corpus of the painter of Ancona. There is, also, some clear refers to the art of Federico Barocci that Andrea could study on Rome in the middle of the nineth decade of Cinquecento.

The painting is important because it shows some contacts between the two artists that the historiography never put in value until now, and could be the basis of a deeper study of a barroccesque phase of Andrea Lilio’s production, at the beginning of the last decade of 16th Century.
