F. V. Lombardi - Abstract
A little known memoir written in 1573 by an old
man, descendant of a notable family from Urbino, recalls two momentous
events of the history of the Urbino signory: the assassination of Duke Oddantonio and the prompt succession of Count Federico, happened 130 years before. Apparently the narration is based
on books of family memoirs but also
on stories reported by people who played
a leading role. So it has come to
our knowledge the real name of
the the young duke's assassin, the subsequent vicissitudes and the grounds of the revolt, as well
as other details of hystorical
significance. The second event is described
in a lifelike manner, both the triumphal entry of Federico da Montefeltro in town
and his acclamation as Lord of Urbino. This memoir casts
new light on the most controversial and enigmatic period of the Montefeltro seignorial dynasty.
