M. Moretti – Abstract
The essay examines the
artistic relationships between the courts of Spain and Urbino at the time of Francesco
Maria II della Rovere. The paper
also focuses on the
influence of Spanish culture in
the commissioning of paintings, especially in relation to the order of the
Clerics Regular Minor that was received in the duchy at
the behest of King Philip III.
Finally, the script analyzes the iconography of Christ still alive and
suffering in life’s last moment, showing the predilection of Francesco
Maria II for this sacred image, chosen as his last gift to the King of Spain and as altarpiece
for the church of SS. Crucifix in Casteldurante, where he wanted to be buried.
